Dustin Byfuglien Almost Scored a Hat Trick Last Night…But Remember Last Year?

History almost repeated itself last night in the Hawks’ 4-1 victory over the Wild when Dustin Byfuglien scored two and was looking for a third. But remember in 2007 when he scored this beauty of a hat trick all in the first period??? (And check out the hilarious mic’d up comments from Brent Seabrook who said, “Hat trick! Booya!”…LOL).

Craig Adams Throws Down…Again!

What’s with Hawks’ winger Craig Adams lately? First a fight with Flyers’ Josh Gratton (the only one of the two fights herein mentioned which has made it to YouTube as of this writing), and then yesterday with one of the Minnesota Wild. Well, whatever is up with Adams, hopefully it continues. It’s good when some of the “old timers” show the younguns (or young guns) how it’s done every once in a while, and it makes me miss Adam Burish a little less.

Sharpie Denied!

All kidding aside, why wasn’t Sharpie considered for the All-Star ballot??

It’s Worth the Permanent Disfigurement

Anyone else getting carpal tunnel from repeatedly voting for Kane, Toews, and Campbell for the 2009 All-Star team? Eeeoww!

So Much Excitement in Vancouver Last Night, the Hawks Were Popping out of the Glass!

In the Hawks 3-1 win over the Vancouver Canucks last night, Matt Walker took a hard check on the boards in the first period from Steve Bernier, which caused Walker and the plexiglass to pop out. But like the gentleman he is, Walker held the pane of plexiglass away from the Canucks fans to keep them from getting hurt. After Canucks fans booed Andrew Ladd, Walker would’ve been justified in letting the plexiglass fall on the Canucks fans where it may, but Walker showed more class with the glass… (more…)

Dunc Scores Game Winner in OT!

Duncan Keith scores the game winner in the first 23 seconds of overtime Friday night. SWEET!

WGN’s “Tom Patasulo” Rebuffs Bobby Hull, Taking the Number 9!

Even in jest, Pat Tomasulo’s usurping of the number 9 feels a bit like blasphemy (not to mention Len Kasper calling Hull an “old timer”). What a good sport Bobby Hull is!….LOL….

So Close! Still, Hats Off to Troy Brouwer

When wondering about who would score the first hat trick* in a prior post, it seemed like Toews and Sharp would be the most likely candidates. But in last night’s Hawks/Oilers game, it was looking like it might be Troy Brouwer after he scored his second goal and was feverishly trying for a third. Clearly his teammates wanted it to be him as well, since they were desperately passing the puck to him at every possible moment in the last minute of the game. Unfortunately it was not meant to be… (more…)

Adam Burish Drops the Gloves and Explains Why Hockey Players Fight

Adam Burish has his own blog at the Sun-Times called Dropping the Gloves which has just been oodles of fun so far (most notably for his raucous appearance as an “enforcer” of sorts on the Jerry Springer show). In a three-part series he artfully explains why hockey players fight and the rules of enforcement. Bur notes that the biggest reason they fight in hockey is “to stick up for a teammate or to prove a point to the other team. Let’s say Jonathan Toews is flying around the ice, stick-handling around the other team. He’s already scored two goals and one of the opposing team’s tough guys wants to try and intimidate him with a big hit or slash in an attempt to slow him down.” (more…)

“Here Come the Hawks” as Sung by…the Hawks

If singing was somehow a hidden clause in my contract, I think I’d be on the phone with my agent!
