Blackhawks v. Sharks: Battle for the Best in the West

Playing teams in the Pacific Division is always seemingly tricky for the Hawks.  Playing teams as good as the Sharks, you can’t be undisciplined and commit stupid penalties like John Madden’s holding call in the opening minute of the game. (Madden would make up for it in the dwindling minutes of the 2nd though with a goal on a nearly wide-open net.)  The Hawks committed almost twice as many penalties as the Sharks.  Still, the Hawks squeaked out another win, 4-3, seconds into the overtime period on a brilliant goal by Brent Seabrook who was set up but proper by Jonathan Toews.  (more…)

So Cool to See Cheli Back in Town!

After seeing Bobby Hull, Stan Mikita, and Tony Esposito on the ice at the UC the other night, Chris Chelios being back in town is just the cherry on the sundae, even if he is skating with the Wolves.  Who knows?  Maybe his career will even surpass Gordie Howe’s.  (And if Cheli signs with the Wolves, does that mean Cheli’s Chili Bar will be coming back to town???)

Home Opener a Go-Go

What a home-opener last night at the UC between the Hawks and the Colorado Avalanche!  Almost makes you wish you were there. (Almost.)  But if I hadn’t been at home I wouldn’t have gotten to see the replay (about 6 times) of Niklas Hjalmarsson’s swing-batta-batta swing into the face of the Avs Darcy Tucker.  In a word: awesome.  And Hjalmy didn’t even get called for high-sticking! WGN’s “Tom Patasulo” Rebuffs Bobby Hull, Taking the Number 9!

Even in jest, Pat Tomasulo’s usurping of the number 9 feels a bit like blasphemy (not to mention Len Kasper calling Hull an “old timer”). What a good sport Bobby Hull is!….LOL….
