Bring Some Boys Up From Rockford, Like Yesterday!

Tim Sassone, my favorite writer over there at The Hockey News was spot on in his blog yesterday when he mentioned the ‘R’ word — Rockford.  But why bring up just one forward? (And if it has to be just one, it should be Jack Skille, no question.  Looking at Andrew Ebbett, you have to ask why Jack Skille was ever sent back down.)  I believe it was a commenter on Sassone’s blog that said that bringing up some boys (that’s plural) from Rockford might shake some of these guys just collecting paychecks from their collective reveries.  (more…)

What Now??? Jack Skille Sent Back Down; Andrew Ebbett Plucked Off Waivers

Winger Jack Skille has been replaced by Andrew Ebbett who was plucked off of waivers from Anaheim on Saturday.  I’m left to ask why?  Wasn’t Skille doing a good job?  Didn’t he come cheap?  Gee, give a kid a chance.

A Much Improved ‘D’ but Still Problems in Net

Wow, I just can’t say enough about how improved the Hawks’ defense is this year.  So far I’ve seen backchecking (actual backchecking!), guys laying down to block shots and impede opponents’ lanes, and screening in front of the opposing net minder’s crease.  Finally I can say that the Hawks have a working offense and defense. Blackhawks’ Bittersweet Win over the Oilers

How  cool was it to see Jack Skille score that goal in tonight’s match-up against the Oilers?  Too bad they keep having to send him back down to Rockford.  I know, I know.  The cap.  Still, I’m excited to see him every time he’s on the ice.  (more…)

Home Opener a Go-Go

What a home-opener last night at the UC between the Hawks and the Colorado Avalanche!  Almost makes you wish you were there. (Almost.)  But if I hadn’t been at home I wouldn’t have gotten to see the replay (about 6 times) of Niklas Hjalmarsson’s swing-batta-batta swing into the face of the Avs Darcy Tucker.  In a word: awesome.  And Hjalmy didn’t even get called for high-sticking! ARGHHHHHHH! Hat Trick Denied! And Then Hat Trick Granted! A Roller Coaster of Emotions at the UC Tonight

The War Room screwed us again and denied Jonathan Toews a hat trick in the 2nd period of tonight’s Hawks/Penguins game, overturning the call on the ice that Tazer’s shot was a goal.  Though the video was inconclusive, the ruling in Toronto was that Toews’ stick was above the cross-bar (i.e. a high stick) on his redirect.  (more…)
