Bye Z, Good Luck in Florida, and Thanks for the Memories!

As I mentioned in a prior post, it is horrible that baseball teams put so much pressure on the players to use steroids and then take virtually no responsibility for the fallout.  And what is the fallout for juicing?  Well, besides things like shrunken testicles and cancer, “roid rage” is a well known side effect of steroid use, or “performance enhancing drugs” as they’re now called.  With juicing as prevalent as it is in baseball, you’d think owners and managers would be used to seeing temper tantrums.  In fact, when their players are doing well, they often look the other way on bad behavior.  But when they can use someone’s faults to their advantage, owners and managers are proving ruthless.  (more…)

Knox on Wood That Johnny is Okay!

Was anyone else freaking out yesterday after Chicago Bears’ Johnny Knox took that horrendous hit from Seattle Seahawks’ defensive tackle Anthony Hargrove in yesterday’s Bears/Seahawks game?  And how awful that the Seahawks were high-fiving each other for what looked like a career-ending hit on Knox! Well after the Seahawks defense had left the field and Knox was lying there near motionless, the Seahawks had a few rounds of self-congratulation that were wildly inappropriate and even callous. Shoulda Sent a Limo for Donovan McNabb!

A little over a week ago, the Chicago Bears organization quipped that they would not “send a limo into Chicago to pick up Donovan McNabb or a private jet to Mississippi for Brett Favre.” Judging from that quote, I guess the Bears’ front office meant that they didn’t want any high-dollar, prima donna quarterbacks and would instead cultivate second-, third-, and fourth-string quarterbacks, which was supposed to be better somehow.  Yeah, not so much. Oops!

Henrik Eriksson accidentally hugs opponent Alen Bibic after a goal in a game between Mora IK and Leksand of Sweden’s Hockeyallsvenskan; Bibic gives him a little reminder tap. Oops!

Donovan McNabb is a Class Act!

You know I have always been impressed with quarterback Donovan McNabb.  He has always had a reputation as a classy guy, but Bears fans got to see that first-hand a couple of years ago when after a game where the Eagles beat the Bears and Jay Cutler got pounded, McNabb made a b-line to Cutler after the game and took the time to give Cutler a hug and some heartfelt words of encouragement.  That always stuck with me.  (more…)

Tim Tebow Haters Theophobic or Just Anti-Christian?

It is disgusting what has happened with Denver Bronco’s back-up, now starter quarterback Tim Tebow.  It seems people either love him or hate him.  Does nobody find it odd that a man who has professed himself a Christian and a virgin should cause so much of an uproar?  Is that how far gone our society is?  So let me get this straight, people hate Tebow because he doesn’t follow the poor example of many in the NFL and the sports world who have DUIs, who rape and get away with it, who beat their wives, who do drugs or drink to an embarrassing extent, who hire hookers or have an entourage of groupies, and who murder?  They hate him because he’s good and not bad???

So, are the haters theophobic, fearing and/or hating religion, or are they just anti-Christian?  Seems it’s unacceptable or un-PC to hate any religion except Christianity.  Now why would that be?

Yeah, well, best of luck to Tim Tebow today replacing Kyle Orton, who was once the  Bears’ hit-or-miss quarterback.  Hopefully Tebow can ignore the haters and have a fantastic game.

No Epstein; and Ryno Please

Guess it’s a little late now, but like unofficial Cubs Nation spokesperson Billy Corgan, I would’ve liked to see Ryne Sandberg as Cubs’ manager next season, not former San Diego Padres GM Jed Hoyer.  Why does this keep not happening?  The Cubs said they didn’t sign Ryno a few years ago because he didn’t have the experience.  Well, Ryno certainly has more experience now and in hindsight would’ve been a better choice than Mike Quade (though many in the Cubs Nation knew this a year ago!).  (more…)

The Bears’ Offense is…Offensive

Wow, what to say about the Bears’ loss to the Lions, 24-13, tonight in Detroit?  Jay Cutler showed up for the game…I mean, he showed up for the game, carrying a failing offense and getting the ball off in spectacular ways despite having been sacked three times and roughed up continually.  However, he looked tired and puffy (i.e. jet lagged).  Maybe boom-boom before a game isn’t bad after all, but I still think Cutler should have been in town all week working with the offensive line because the offensive line was offensive indeed.  (more…)

Maxime Talbot: Superstar!

While I’m not a Penguins fan and certainly not a Flyers fan, I have always enjoyed the antics of forward Maxime Talbot.  He was just traded this season from the Pens to the Flyers.  I don’t know how Max will do in Philly, but I do know I’ll miss his hilarious commercials!  So, in honor of Max’s silliness, here are some of his legendary commercials.  Enjoy!:

Don’t forget your rubber ducky! Bwahahaha!

And of course the ‘Superstar’ commercial is now a classic! Chicka chicka, yeah! (And a cameo from Geno and Colby Armstrong too.)

But, perhaps the best and most well-known commercial of them all is this one Max shot with Sidney Crosby for Reebok:

Hopefully Max will start doing commercials for Philly. I really think he has a bright future as a spokesman…LOL…

White Sox Name Robin Ventura as New Manager…Um..Hmmm

Robin Ventura is best known as a former White Sox third baseman. (And you may remember there was a very humorous incident in 1993 when Ventura as a White Sox player rushed the mound when Rangers pitcher Nolan Ryan hit Ventura with a wayward pitch. Fast forward to Ventura in a headlock, getting his ears boxed…tee hee.) Robin Ventura is not known as a manager. That’s because he’s never been one…until now. I have mixed emotions on this one. Nothing against Ventura, but I wonder if Kenny Williams didn’t just pick someone he thought would be…well…malleable. After infamously clashing with Ozzie Guillen, I could understand Williams wanting to play this one closer to the vest, but then he should prepare White Sox fans for a couple of “rebuilding years” as we like to say in Chicago.  (more…)
